A high surf advisory has been issued for the north and west shores of Oahu until 6 p.m. Monday with waves expected to reach 15 to 20 feet on the North Shore.
Oahu’s west facing shores should see waves of 8 to 12 feet, the city’s Department of Emergency Management said.
West and north-facing shores of Kaui, Molokai and Maui also should see waves of 15 to 20 feet, emergency management officials said.
The high surf advisory went into effect at noon today but waves are expected to continue to rise throughout today and tonight, then gradually subside on Monday, emergency management officials said.
A high surf advisory means large breaking waves and dangerous rip currents exist and people should stay out of the ocean and well away from the shore break.
