Motorcyclist injured in accident
A 50-year-old motorcyclist was in critical condition with head and internal injuries after an accident Saturday night on Vineyard Boulevard.
Police said the man’s 1996 black Honda motorcycle was traveling Ewa at a high rate of speed in the right lane on Vineyard near Waipa Lane when a 2004 gold Toyota van attempted a lane change from the middle to the right lane and sideswiped the motorcycle at about 6:45 p.m.
Paramedics took the Honolulu man to the hospital in critical condition. A 35-year-old Honolulu female passenger also went to the hospital, but police said her injuries were minor. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
Police said speed is a possible factor in the crash. The man and woman on the motorcycle were not wearing helmets, police said.
Man shot in leg is hospitalized
Police are investigating a shooting that happened in Kaneohe on New Year’s Eve.
The 32-year-old victim said he was confronted by five Polynesian men in a pickup truck. He told police that he heard what he initially thought was a firecracker, then realized that he had been shot in the leg. Both he and the suspects then fled the scene.
Police did not specify where the incident occurred.
The victim was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
Police said the victim was heavily intoxicated and that other details of the incident were unclear.
Missing boater reaches island
Three days after the Coast Guard suspended its search for a boater who went missing during a voyage from Kauai to Oahu, the boater — 66-year-old Ira Foreman of Seattle — arrived Sunday at Honokohau Harbor on Hawaii island — two weeks late and nearly 100 miles off course, but alive.
Foreman left Port Allen, Kauai, on the morning of Dec. 17 but failed to arrive at Keehi Lagoon as scheduled the next day. He was reported missing a week later.
Search-and-rescue officials at Coast Guard Sector Honolulu received word Saturday from Foreman’s ex-wife that Foreman had contacted her via cellphone, telling her that he had been blown off-course by strong winds but was never in any distress. He arrived at Hawaii island at 3 p.m.
