Kilauea Volcano to be on commemorative quarter

Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park will be featured on a commemorative 2012 quarter to be released Aug. 27 through the United States Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters Program.

The Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park coin depicts an eruption on the east rift zone of Kilauea. It was designed and sculpted by United States Mint sculptor-engraver Charles L. Vickers.

The design selection and release date were announced today.

The Kilauea quarter will be the 14th in a series of 56 America the Beautiful quarters. The series began in 2010.
