Look for H-1 westbound shutdown downtown starting Sunday night

The state Department of Transportation is advising motorists that all Waianae-bound lanes of H-1 freeway will be closed near the Vineyard Boulevard Offramp nightly from Sunday night through Friday morning.

Closures between the Vineyard Boulevard Offramp and the Palama Street Offramp will begin at 10:30 each night and end at 4:30 the next morning, so crews can replace the electronic message board on the Liliha Street overpass.

Each night, crews will begin closing two lanes at 9 and close all lanes in the Waianae-bound direction at 10:30.

The closures will begin each night from Sunday through Thursday.

Westbound traffic will be detoured to the Vineyard Boulevard Offramp and allowed back onto the freeway at Halona Street (after Palama Street) during the closures.

The Transportation Department advised motorists to use caution when driving through the area, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes. Some alternatives for affected routes are:

>> Pali Highway can be accessed from South Vineyard Boulevard.

>> To reach North School Street, drive west on Vineyard Boulevard, turn right onto Liliha Street and turn on North School Street.

>> Motorists on School Street trying to get on H-1 freeway should turn south on Liliha Street, turn west on North Vineyard Boulevard, and continue to the H-1 freeway Onramp.
