Police release man in Waikiki fatal stabbing
A 39-year-old man who fatally stabbed an Oahu man following a confrontation over a stolen bag has been released pending further investigation, Honolulu police Capt. Britt Nishijo said.
Killed was Brycen Iona, 20, of Kaneohe.
Iona died due to a stab wound to his chest, the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Police said Iona was part of a group who was walking near the concession area of Queen’s Surf about 2:25 a.m. Sunday and stole a bag and ran to their car.
The owner of the bag confronted them and an argument ensued, police said.
Police allege that Iona struck the owner, and the owner stabbed Iona and another man.
