Moderate quake reported off Guam; no tsunami generated

SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands >> A moderate earthquake has struck in the western Pacific region near the U.S. territories of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. 

The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 5.3 quake struck today. It was centered about 11 miles northwest of Rota and 60 miles northeast of Hagatna 

Guam Homeland Security spokeswoman Alyssa Benito says they have had no reports of any injuries or damage. 

She says the quake was not large enough to generate a tsunami.

The USGS says in its website that about three dozen people in the region reported feeling the temblor.
