Endowment set up for North Hawaii hospital hospice
The estate of the late Alcy D. and Jacque Johnson has created a $1.5 million endowment that will benefit North Hawaii Community Hospital North Hawaii Hospice in perpetuity.
The Jacqueline and Alcy Johnson Memorial Fund, held by the Hawaii Community Foundation, will distribute proceeds annually, with 60 percent directed to the hospital and 40 percent to the hospice, the hospital said in a news release.
The Johnsons were longtime Waimea residents. Alcy "Shorty" Johnson, a former manager of the Kawaihae shipping terminal, died June 12 at the age of 89. Jacque Johnson died in 1993. Alcy Johnson’s will directed the creation of the memorial fund.
Alcy John was well-known in Waimea for his volunteer activities, including those at North Hawai’i Community Hospital. "Shorty was a beautiful light, and his spirit of aloha will always be an eternal part of our healing environment at NHCH," said Arielle Faith Michael, director of Holistic Care Services and Volunteers at the hospital.
