Martinez takes leave of absence
Moanalua football coach Arnold Martinez will take a leave of absence for the upcoming season.
"It’s nothing negative. It’s my choice to take a little break," said Martinez, who guided the varsity program for the past nine years.
Brannon Jackson, a JV assistant coach, will be the interim head coach. Martinez, who has children ages 7 and 10, declined to specify the reason for the hiatus.
"The expectations are still the same. I’m still here until we make the transition. Our offseason training is all the same," he said. "When you coach, it’s a lifestyle, thinking about how to better the kids and the program 24 hours a day, every day. We’ve invested so much of our lives, it’s part of the culture. I love the guys, I love the team."
