Police shoot man with Taser when he resists arrest

An officer used a Taser on a 26-year-old suspect in the Mayor Wright housing complex early Wedensday morning when he resisted arrest, police said.

An officer in a parked patrol car saw a motorist drive by without his seat belt on and then watched the vehicle pull over a few parking stalls away from him at 1235 Pua Lane about 12:13 a.m., police said.

As the officer approached the male driver and asked for his paperwork, the man shoved the officer in the chest and began to run, police said. After a brief foot chase, the man fell and, as officers moved in to arrest him, he began kicking at an officer and rose to take a fighting stance.

When the man then resisted verbal orders to comply, an officer shot his Taser, police said.

Officers arrested the suspect, of no local address, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and harassment.
