Top 4 GOP candidates are on caucus ballot
Hawaii Republicans will have a full field for their inaugural presidential caucuses on March 13.
The state GOP announced Friday that former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum had registered for the ballot. Santorum joins former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul.
"We are pleased that all of the front running Republican presidential candidates are now on the ballot," David Chang, the party’s chairman, said in a statement. "The Hawaii Republican Caucus gives voters a real choice and a real voice in the presidential race."
Man missing after sailboat found deserted
The Coast Guard and Maui law enforcement officials were searching for the owner of a 29-foot recreational sailing vessel found aground south of Lahaina on Monday.
The vessel, registered to Randy Perez, was found grounded at 11:15 a.m. The vessel is registered in Hawaii and bears hull identification number HA4201E.
Attempts to contact Perez were unsuccessful, the Coast Guard said at 3:21 p.m.
No one was aboard the boat. The Coast Guard and local law enforcement were trying to determine whether Perez was in distress.
Coast Guard officials request anyone with knowledge of the vessel or its owner to call Sector Honolulu command center at 842-2601.
Identity sought for man found beside roadway
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man found unresponsive Monday at noon on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona.
Fire Department medics responded to Alii Drive just north of Kaleiopapa Street to a report of a man collapsed on the side of the road. People were performing CPR on the man when Fire Department personnel arrived.
Police officers canvassed the area but could not find anyone who could identify the man, estimated to be 60 to 70 years old. He has white hair and was wearing red shorts, a white shirt and tennis shoes.
He was transported to Kona Community Hospital and listed in critical condition.
Police ask that anyone with information on his identity call the police nonemergency line at 935-3311.
