The National Weather Service extended a high surf advisory for north and west shores of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Molokai and Niihau until 6 p.m. Tuesday as a new reinforcement swell brings more big wavesf to the islands.
Wave faces of 15 to 20 feet are predicted for north shores today. West shores should see 8 to 12 foot swells.
The latest swell comes as waves from a swell this weekend start to fade. Another storm in the north Pacific is expected to bring larger waves on Thursday.
The high surf advisory means waves could produce dangerous rip currents and beach erosion. Inexperienced beach-goers are advised to stay away from the shore break and out of the water.
A small craft advisory is also in effect through Tuesday morning for Hawaiian waters because of the swell.
