A woman in her 50s was taken to a Honolulu hospital in critical condition after she was found floating face down in waters off Waikiki Thursday afternoon.

The woman was found about 20 yards offshore from the beach fronting Hilton Hawaiian Village, said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig. City firefighters, lifeguards and paramedics rendered aid on the beach, he said.

The victim, who appears to be a visitor from Asia, was taken to the hospital shortly after the 3:06 p.m. call, a spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services said.
