Kauai police are investigating a three-vehicle crash that injured a police officer this afternoon on Kuhio Highway near Kapaka Street in Princeville.

The officer was taken to Wilcox Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries after his vehicle rear-ended a white van causing it to hit a two-door convertible in the northbound lanes of the highway about 1:25 p.m.

No other injuries were reported.

KPD’s Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene and closed the northbound lane while crews worked to clear the roadway.

The highway was reopened just before 4 p.m.
