Hawaii Opera Theatre will hold auditions Feb. 25 for its training program for young singers.
The program, called the Mae Z. Orvis Opera Studio, offers participants instruction in opera movement, musical style, language and repertoire. Vocal training is not provided.
Scholarships are available for the courses, which are led by HOT staff and visiting artists and professionals. Touring artist Quinn Kelsey, who recently appeared in HOT’s production of "Aida," was among those who went through the program. Though there is no age limit, HOT education assistant Eric Schank said participants tend to be college age.
Applicants should prepare three arias or art songs. Auditions will be conducted from 2 to 6 p.m. at Blaisdell Concert Hall. For information about the auditions, contact Schank at e_schank@hawaiiopera.org or 596-7372, extension 206.
