Eggens scores twice, but Canada loses
Three former Rainbow Wahine water polo players could not lift Canada over Team USA in last week’s Holiday Cup at Los Alamitos, Calif.
The U.S. scored the final five goals to defeat Canada 11-8 in Sunday’s final. Monika Eggens, an All-American at the University of Hawaii last season, scored two goals for Canada. Her sister Carmen did not score. Samantha Bredin was the backup goalie.
The Eggens sisters combined for three goals in a 9-2 win over Italy in the semifinals.
Cal Baptist routs Chaminade in hoops
Simone Holmes scored 19 points to lead Cal Baptist to a 105-44 women’s basketball win over Chaminade on Monday in Riverside, Calif.
Jasmine Beverly pulled down 11 rebounds for the Lancers (19-4, 12-3 Pacific West Conference).
Nikki Tauau scored 12 points for the Silverswords (1-20, 1-13).
Deeb leads Cal Baptist past Chaminade
Kevin Deeb scored 23 points as Cal Baptist beat Chaminade 87-63 in men’s basketball in Riverside, Calif., on Monday.
Ivan Patterson added 18 points for the Lancers (16-6, 10-5 PacWest). Bennie Murray scored 18 points to lead the Silverswords (9-12, 7-7).
Grand Canyon trips BYUH men
Braylon Pickrel scored 23 points to lead Grand Canyon to a 72-59 victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii in men’s basketball in Phoenix on Monday.
Blake Davis helped out with 10 rebounds for the Antelopes (15-7, 9-5 PacWest).
Jake Dastrup led the way for the Seasiders (14-9, 11-3) with 12 points.
Grand Canyon drops BYUH women
Maylinn Smith scored 20 points in Grand Canyon’s 78-52 women’s basketball win over BYUH in Phoenix on Monday.
Shayla Washington scored 16 points for the Seasiders (5-17, 4-10 PacWest).
The Antelopes improved to 19-3 and 11-3.
