Honolulu man drowns off North Shore
A 47-year-old Honolulu man drowned Thursday while surfing with friends at Rocky Point Lefts on the North Shore, officials said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Howard Hutchings. The office said he drowned in an accident.
Other surfers found Hutchings in the water with no pulse and no breath and brought him to shore about 1 p.m., said Ocean Safety Division Operations Chief Jim Howe. Lifeguards responded to a 911 call and began CPR before paramedics took Hutchings to Wahiawa General Hospital.
Police said Hutchings was surfing with friends and there were no signs of foul play.
