Warriors win exhibition over Nittaidai
The University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team ended its four-game losing streak with an exhibition win over Nittaidai of Japan, 25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 25-23, on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Steven Hunt led the Warriors attack with a game-high 16 kills, followed by Nick West with 11. The Warriors also outblocked Nittaidai 13-3.
Shohei Yamamoto tallied 14 kills for Nittaidai, also known as Nippon Sports Science University. Shuzo Yamada added 13 kills and 12 digs for the Japanese squad.
The rematch will take place on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
3 UH women win WAC swim titles
Three Hawaii athletes won titles at the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in San Antonio on Friday.
Hawaii’s Sofia Djelic won the 100-yard butterly in 54.34 seconds.
UH’s Christa Prior captured the 100 backstroke with a personal best 54.07, and teammate Daniella Nero scored a personal best of 343.75 to win the 3-meter dive.
UH is 13 points behind second-place Northern Arizona. San Jose State leads the competition.
Fujikawa tied for 18th at eGolf event
Hawaii’s Tadd Fujikawa is tied for 18th after three rounds in the eGolf Tour’s Oldfield Open, which is being played at two courses in Okatie, S.C.
Fujikawa shot an even-par 72 on Friday for a three-round total of 2-under 212 heading into today’s final round.
He trails the leader, Chris Naegel, by seven shots.
HPU baseball improves to 8-0 with win
Blake Amaral had two hits and two RBIs to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 5-2 baseball win over Grand Canyon on Friday at Hans L’Orange Park.
Cory Yuh improved to 2-0 with a complete-game eight-hitter for the Sea Warriors (8-0, 5-0 Pacific West Conference).
Derek Mendoza had three hits for the Antelopes (4-9, 2-7).
