Warriors volleyball team holds off Nittaidai
Steven Hunt led all attackers with 19 kills as No. 13 Hawaii survived a five-set men’s volleyball match (25-16, 22-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-11) with Nittaidai of Japan on Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Nick West added 13 kills, while JP Marks and Taylor Averill each chipped in 10 kills. Hawaii (6-9, 3-7) heads on the road to face No. 6 USC (Friday and Sunday) and top-ranked Stanford (March 6-7).
Hawaii takes 13th at UC Irvine tourney
Hawaii finished in 13th place at the UC Irvine Invitational water polo tournament on Sunday.
UH beat Long Beach State 6-4 and UC Davis 7-6 to improve to 4-6.
Amarens Genee, Danielle Lewis and Caity Lopes de Silva each scored two goals against the 49ers.
Genee also had two goals against the Aggies, while Emily Carr, Kathryn Teets, Sivan Pardon, Monique Wilson and Emily Scott scored one apiece.
Grand Canyon drops HPU in baseball
Lucas Leifeld had three hits and drove in five runs to lead Grand Canyon to a 9-2 baseball victory over previously undefeated Hawaii Pacific at Hans L’Orange Park on Sunday.
Michael Pomeroy went 3-for-4 for the Antelopes (5-11, 3-9 Pacific West Conference).
Blake Amaral and Derek Nakasato had two hits apiece for the Sea Warriors (10-1, 7-1).
HPU softball team earns split
The Hawaii Pacific softball team split a Pacific West Conference doubleheader with Cal Baptist on Saturday in Riverside, Calif.
In the first game, Breanne Patton pitched a six-hitter, and the No. 22 Sea Warriors scored five runs in the third inning en route to a 7-5 victory.
In the second game, Tory Ferreira pitched a five-hitter in Cal Baptist’s 7-0 win.
HPU moved to 8-4 and 3-1; Cal Baptist is 13-2 and 1-1.
