UH officials warn of date-rape drugging
University of Hawaii at Manoa campus security officials are warning students not to leave drinks unattended and to be wary of accepting drinks from people they do not know after a student reported being given a drink that may have contained a "date-rape drug."
According to UH, the student was at the Manoa Gardens restaurant and bar Friday when she was given a drink by two males she did not know. The student reported having no memory of the rest of the night and later waking up in an off-campus apartment with a person she didn’t know.
The university said the student reported "symptoms consistent with the ingestion of date-rape drug substances," including rapid onset of intoxication out of proportion to the amount of alcohol consumed and memory loss.
UH security is investigating the incident.
