Streets in the Salt Lake area near the Hawaiian Electric Co. substation were closed for nearly three hours early this morning while police checked out a suspicious package.

Police said the item was reported on a fence of the Hawaiian Electric facility at 1:18 this morning.

Specialized Services officers were sent to the scene and Salt Lake Boulevard, Bougainville Drive and Lawehana Street were closed. The streets were reopened at 3:30 a.m.
