Hawaii’s Ha gains USA boxing final
Hawaii’s Lisa Ha won her semifinal bout Friday night at the USA Boxing National Championships in Fort Carson, Colo., to advance to today’s final of the 106-pound division.
Ha earned a 20-14 decision over Marina Ramirez of Sacramento, Calif., on Friday. She will fight Alex Love of Monroe, Wash., today for a spot on the U.S. team that will compete at the Women’s World Championships in China later this year. Ha won a bronze medal at this event last year.
Southern Utah, HPU split doubleheader
Marcus Romero homered and drove in four runs, Chase Rezac homered twice and drove in three and Kamehameha graduates Bryson Kenolio and Mitchell Kauweloa each went 2-for-4 as Southern Utah beat Hawaii Pacific 11-5 at Hans L’Orange Park on Friday.
The Sea Warriors (11-3) beat the Thunderbirds (2-7) 4-0 in the second game.
Grand Canyon blasts UH-Hilo in baseball
Tagg Duce went 4-for-4 and scored four runs and Derek Mendoza was 4-for-5 with three runs batted in to lead Grand Canyon (7-12, 5-10 in the PacWest) over Hawaii-Hilo (4-7, 1-6) 10-5 in the first game of a doubleheader at Wong Stadium on Friday.
In a late game from Thursday, Grand Canyon beat UHH 7-1 behind Brady Wagner, who fanned 11 in seven innings.
No. 14 Michigan nets win against UH
No. 14 Michigan defeated the University of Hawaii women’s tennis team 4-1 today at the UH Tennis Complex.
Martina Kostalova got UH’s lone point by beating Sam Critser 7-5, 6-1.
