A 61-year-old Kapaau woman died Friday night after a single-vehicle crash in Waimea, Hawaii island police said.

The woman was driving a 2006 Toyota pickup in the south-bound direction on Kohala Mountain Road about 2:30 p.m. when she lost control, crossed the center line, and hit a tree near the 9-mile marker, police said.

She was taken to the Kona Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 8:47 p.m.

Police have ordered an autopsy.
