Man nearly drowns in Ala Wai Canal
Paramedics took a man to an area hospital in extremely critical condition Sunday after he nearly drowned in the Ala Wai Canal.
Paramedics were called at 3:18 p.m. Bystanders told Honolulu firefighters that they were not sure whether the man, who is in his 50s, jumped or fell into the canal near Namahana Street, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Gary Lum.
Bystanders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man until firefighters took over, Lum said.
Paramedic hurt in attack by woman
A 44-year-old woman allegedly assaulted and injured a 54-year-old paramedic in the Punchbowl area Saturday, police said.
The paramedic was on duty when the assault allegedly occurred at 3:42 p.m., police said. The suspect was found nearby and arrested at 9:30 p.m.
