Fugitive in custody after eluding officers
Police arrested a 34-year-old man Friday who eluded them several times this month.
On Friday morning, police found Kenneth Wong sitting in his girlfriend’s recently purchased vehicle at her Punaluu home. When an officer told him to get out, Wong climbed into the driver’s seat and drove off, nearly hitting the officer, police said.
Wong drove to the other end of the property, but another vehicle blocked the exit.
A second officer approached Wong from the driver’s side and was almost hit as the vehicle reversed, police said.
The vehicle ended up in a ditch and officers arrested Wong after a brief scuffle.
Officers arrested Wong at 9:10 a.m. at 53-224 Kamehameha Highway for investigation of two counts of first-degree attempted murder, resisting arrest and an outstanding arrest warrant. His 28-year-old girlfriend was also arrested on suspicion of hindering prosecution and on an earlier arrest warrant.
Wong was wanted for alleged auto theft, fleeing the scene of an accident, drug charges, and resisting arrest for a series of events on March 3 and March 6.
In a CrimeStoppers Bulletin earlier this month, police said Wong jumped from a three-story building in Makiki on March 6 while trying to evade police — and then fled from the Queen’s Medical Center while being treated for his injuries. He earlier drove away from police trying to arrest him for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle, police said.
Inmate who went on the lam is back in cell
A man captured Friday in Makiki after more than a week on the loose from the Laumaka Work Furlough program has been charged.
Isaac Ariola, 27, is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail after being charged with second-degree escape Friday night.
Ariola was arrested Thursday at a Makiki apartment complex on Liholiho Street.
He failed to return to Laumaka from work furlough on March 5.
Charges of second-degree robbery and kidnapping involving a woman during his time on the loose are still pending, police said.
At the same time Ariola was arrested Thursday, a 20-year-old Aiea woman was arrested in the case for allegedly hindering prosecution for helping a prison escapee.
