A man who allegedly left his fingerprints after trying unsuccessfully to cash a forged check was arrested today at Oahu Community Correctional Center, where he was being held on an unrelated offense, police said.

Police said the man, 45, tried to cash a check on an account at the Wahiawa branch of American Savings Bank about 11 a.m. on Nov. 14. The account had previously been closed by its owner due to previously forged checks

The suspect left the bank, but not before leaving fingerprints on the check, police said.

A match of the fingerprints was made recently with an OCCC inmate who has numerous prior offenses, police said.

He was arrested this morning on counts of second-degree forgery, second-degree theft, second-degree identity theft and unauthorized control of a personal check.
