McDonald’s of Kona Commons will hold a grand-opening celebration Saturday to mark the chain’s newest restaurant in the state. McDonald’s has 75 restaurants in Hawaii. The event from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 74-5453 Makala Blvd. will include a blessing ceremony, food sampling and entertainment.

The McDonald’s of Kona Commons has several energy-efficient features, including LED lights, Energy Star freezers and icemakers, and high-efficiency warming cabinets and cooking equipment, low-consumption walk-in refrigerator, self-regulating air conditioning system and cool-roof technology.

As part of the celebration, McDonald’s is encouraging residents to bring three or more incandescent light bulbs to the event between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in exchange for free, energy-saving compact fluorescent bulbs while supplies last.
