Police arrested a 39-year-old man Wednesday morning after he allegedly tried to run from officers by jumping out of his vehicle, then by trying to get back in the vehicle in Waipahu.
Officers were sent to a report of a theft of a vehicle’s rims about 4:15 a.m. near Alau Street and saw the man driving off, police said. The man drove to the area near Mahoe and Waipahu streets where he got out of his vehicle while it was still in gear and ran, police said.
Officers chased the man on foot and grabbed him as he tried to re-enter his vehicle, which had come to rest against a street sign with minimal damage.
Police said the man struggled with officers before they could arrest him for investigation of numerous offenses, including theft.
