Motorcyclist killed in Hawaii island crash

A 31-year-old motorcyclist died in an accident Wednesday morning after striking a car with his motorcycle in Waikoloa, a Hawaii County fire official said.

The man hit the rear of the car with his Kawasaki motorcycle and lost control, a fire official said.

Firefighters found the motorcycle on its side with extensive damage, and the car was found with damage to the driver’s side tailight assembly, the fire official said. The accident occurred 11:25 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 190 at about the 13 mile marker in Puuanahulu.

Police were investigating the accident and shut down Highway 190 between Waikoloa Road and Kaiminani Drive. The road was reopened about 3 p.m.
