High-wind advisory in effect for parts of Maui County, Hawaii island

A high-wind advisory is in effect for portions of Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii island this evening.

The National Weather Service said winds from the northeast will reach 30 mph, with gusts of up to 50 mph.

“Winds this strong can bring down tree branches and make driving difficult,” the weather service said.

The agency said the wind will be accelerated through the channels and valleys and down leeward slopes.

The affected locales include Kalaupapa and Kaunakakai on Molokai, Manele Bay and Lanai City on Lanai, Lahaina, Kaanapali and Kahului on Maui and Waikoloa on Hawaii island.

The advisory is in effect through 10 p.m.
