Honolulu firefighters rescued a group of paddlers today after their canoe overturned and they couldn’t right the boat off the North Shore.
Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the paddlers were part of a group using three canoes off Papailoa Beach in Haleiwa when they were swamped by waves shortly before 6 p.m. Two of the canoes overturned, but the paddlers were able to right one of them. When firefighters arrived, they found one canoe submerged and towed it back to shore with a personal water craft. Seelig said no one was injured.
