Kailua-Kona man charged with robbing acquaintance
Hawaii County police charged today a 31-year-old Kailua-Kona man with robbery and drug charges after allegedly robbing a 43-year-old man.
Police said the 43-year-old man was sleeping Wednesday outside a business building in the Hanama Place shopping area when he awoke to find an acquaintance allegedly forcibly taking money from his pants pocket.
He struggled with the asailant, who then allegedly took out a pocket knife and fled with the cash, police said.
Police arrested Marcus Anthony Winkler, who has no permanent address, at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on Alii Drive.
Offices found a glass smoking pipe with residue believed to be methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.
Winkler was charged with first-degree robbery, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $70,000.
Winkler is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
