UH hits four home runs in 9-1 softball win over LaTech

University of Hawaii center fielder Kelly Majam hit home runs in her first two plate appearances and the Rainbow Wahine softball team rolled to a 9-1 win over Louisiana Tech tonight  in the opener of a three-game Western Athletic Conference series.

Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu and Leisha Li’ili’i both added two-run home runs and UH pitcher Stephanie Ricketts struck out 10 as the No. 14/19 Wahine improved to 33-4 overall and 7-2 in WAC play.

Majam gave UH the lead with her third leadoff home run of the season and Li’ili’i added a run-scoring single later in the bottom of the first inning.

With one out in the bottom of the second, Majam lined her second home run of the game out to left center. Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to give UH a 5-0 lead.

UH’s lead grew to 6-0 in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Jessica Iwata.

After UH added a run in the fifth when pinch runner Lauren Parnaby scored on a wild pitch, Louisiana Tech got on the scoreboard on Meghan Knowles’ solo home run in the top of the sixth.

Li’ili’i hit a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the inning to bring the eight-run rule into effect and end the game.

The series between the Wahine and Lady Techsters (18-21, 5-4) concludes Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
