Hawaii residents will have a chance to safely dispose of expired or unused prescription medications at locations statewide.
April 28 will mark the state’s fourth prescription drug take-back initiative. Tablets, capsules and all other solid dosage forms of medicine will be accepted at the drop-off locations, the state Department of the Attorney General said in a news release.
Unused or expired medicine should not be thrown in the trash or flushed down the toilet because it can enter the residental water supply or harm aquatic life, the news release stated.
Since September 2010 the state has collected close to 4,300 pounds of unwanted medications, the release said.
Residents are invited to turn in any medications anonymously from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28 at these locations:

The Department of the Attorney General, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Narcotics Enforcement Division of the state Department of Public Safety are coordinating the event.
