Two paddleboarders rescued after drifting a mile offshore
Firefighters and lifeguards rescued two paddleboarders after they found themselves drifting about a mile offshore of Niu Valley.
Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the paddlers used a cell phone to call for help about 2 p.m. Wednesday.
He said one of the paddlers lost control after a skeg on the paddleboard broke, but the two paddlers stayed together and called for help. Firefighters brought one of the paddlers back using a personal water craft, while lifeguards assisted the other paddler back to shore, Seelig said. No one was hurt.
