A 49-year-old Honolulu man was in critical condition after his mo-ped rear-ended a Buick sedan on Kalanianaole Highway Thursday afternoon.

Police closed two Ewa-bound lanes on Kalanianaole Highway near Niu Valley Shopping Center after the 5:40 p.m. crash.

Police said a 2010 blue mopped driven by the 49-year-old victim hit a 2006 maroon Buick sedan, which was stopped at a stoplight at Halemaumau Street.

The man was not wearing a helmet and suffered head and other injuries, police said.

He went to the hospital in serious condition, but his condition worsened to critical, police said.

Traffic investigators continued their investigation at the scene until at least 7:30 p.m.
