Strong quake off Indonesia did not generate Pacific-wide tsunami
A 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck off the north coast of Indonesia but did not generate a Pacific-wide tsunami, officials said..
The quake, which was centered 74 miles south-southeast of Manokwari, Irian Jaya, Indonesia at a depth of 20 miles, hit at 10:16 a.m. Saturday at the epicenter (3:16 p.m. Friday Hawaii time), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach issued a bulletin saying that the quake is not expected to generate a Pacific-wide tsunami.
