Prison guard arrested on sex charges
A prison guard at the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu is facing charges that he had sex with an inmate at the facility.
Agents from the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice Office of Inspector General arrested Richard Seaman when he showed up for work Thursday morning, FBI special agent Tom Simon said.
Seaman, 46, appeared in U.S. District Court on Thursday afternoon and pleaded not guilty to five counts of sexual abuse of a ward.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Kevin Chang ordered Seaman released on a $50,000 unsecured bond co-signed with his wife.
A federal grand jury returned an indictment Wednesday, charging Seaman with having unlawful sex with a female inmate at the detention center on Sept. 23, Oct. 18 and 21, Nov. 17 and Dec. 8.
