‘DESCENDANTS’ MUSICIANS PARTY AT THEVENUE
1. Hawaii Film Office executive Georja Skinner caught up with Grammy-winning rec ord producer Charles Michael Brotman, left, “Descendants” music supervisor Dondi Bastone and slack-key master Cyril Pahinui at a cocktail reception co-sponsored by the Recording Academy Pacific Northwest Chapter and the Hawaii International Film Festival April 14 at theVenue. The reception was part of a larger program, “Sound X Vision: Celebrating the Music of the Descendants,” which included a screening of the film and a panel discussion about music placement and the importance of Hawaiian music in the soundtrack.

Proceeds benefited the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and the Miss East Oahu and Miss Kahala scholarship funds.

3. Audible Lab Rats — Chris Blue, left, DJ Skid and Werdupstu Sta — celebrated the release of their third album, “The I-Project,” with a CD party and hip-hop showcase show April 13 at Hawaiian Brian’s. It was a good night for local hip-hop. The lounge was comfortably full by the time the trio took the stage to close the show sometime after midnight.

2. Slack-key guitarist Jeff Peterson, a participant in the panel discussion who is heard on the soundtrack, welcomed novelist Kaui Hart Hemmings, right, and her mother, Suzy Hemmings, to the party. Music was an important part of the reception: Peterson, Brotman, Pahinui, Pancho Graham, Makana and Willie K entertained the other guests.
