Medical Examiner identifies man who died weeks after beating
The 28-year-old Honolulu man, who died Sunday from brain injuries sustained in a March 25 assault in Makiki, has been identified as Richie Villanueva by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Cause of death is pending investigation, the Medical Examiner’s Office said today.
Police have not yet arrested a 32-year-old man suspected in the incident. Police said the two men were arguing in a parking lot when the suspect allegedly assaulted Villanueva.
He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at midnight Sunday, police said.
Police reclassified the case to second-degree murder on Monday.
