May 14 deadline to apply for North Shore beach permits

People who wish to obtain a city permit to hold surfing or other ocean events on North Shore beaches on Oahu must submit an application by May 14, the city announced.

Permits are required for surfing, body surfing, body boarding, windsurfing, paddleboard surf or wave skiing events at Ehukai Beach Park, Mokuleia Beach Park, Haleiwa Alii Beach Park, Sunset Beach Park, and Waimea Beach Park.

The applications pertain to events scheduled from Oct. 1, 2012 through Sept. 30, 2013.

Applications must be mailed or hand-delivered by the close of business on May 14 to the Department of Parks and Recreation, 1000 Uluohia St., Suite 309, Kapolei, HI 96707. Applications that are faxed or emailed will not be accepted.

Application forms may be obtained from the Parks Permit Section, 650 S. King St., or Haleiwa Alii Beach Park, 66-167 Haleiwa Road.
