Former UH star Sapolu to announce 49ers’ pick
Former Hawaii and Farrington offensive lineman Jesse Sapolu will announce the San Francisco 49ers’ second-round pick during this week’s NFL Draft.
For the second straight year, the league will have retired players announce the choices by their former teams in the second round. Among the other players participating are incoming Hall of Famers Dermontti Dawson (Steelers) and Willie Roaf (Saints).
Washington, Oakland, New Orleans and Arizona do not have second-round selections, so their representatives will announce their third-round picks.
Sapolu won four Super Bowls with the 49ers and was named All-Pro at center twice.
UH’s Kapiioho takes lead at WAC golf

The ‘Iolani graduate was 2 under par on the front nine and birdied three of her final four holes.
Junior teammate Kaili Britos is fifth, three shots back. Those two helped Hawaii move into second place with a team score of 11-over-par 299, eight shots behind San Jose State. The Spartans have won the past three titles, beating the Rainbow Wahine by a shot two years ago.
The 54-hole tournament continues today.
McLachlin just misses qualifying
Hawaii’s Parker McLachlin had five birdies in a round of 68 at Monday’s Nationwide Tour qualifier, but his lone bogey kept him out of this week’s South Georgia Classic Open.
McLachlin finished in an eight-way tie for fourth at Glen Arven Country Club. The top seven qualified, but McLachlin lost out in the playoff. Moanalua graduate Tadd Fujikawa also tried to qualify at Doublegate Country Club. He shot 74 to tie for 81st. The top seven also qualified at that site.
