Hawaii County police identified a 51-year-old man who died May 2 after a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Route 130 and Leilani Avenue in Pahoa.

Police said Rikko J. Von Gato, of Pahoa, died from injuries sustained in the 9:54 a.m. crash on May 2.

Von Gato, riding a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on Leilani Avenue, failed to stop at a stop sign, went through the intersection onto a private driveway and struck a gate, police said. 

He was not wearing a helmet. 

Von Gato died at the Hilo Medical Center at 1:12 p.m.
