Hawaii County police arrested a 72-year-old man in connection with the shooting of a 55-year-old woman in Panaewa.

According to police, officers responding to a report of several shots being fired from a residence in Panaewa found the victim with gunshot wounds Sunday evening. Further investigation indicated that the suspect had fired at another person within the residence.

Police arrested the Hawaiian Beaches man on suspicion of attempted murder.

The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition.
