After garnering a third-place and four second-place awards, Joseph Cadou­steau finally took this year’s World Fireknife Championships title Saturday at the Polynesian Cultural Center.

“I’m so happy and honored to be named the winner in this 20th anniversary year of the World Fireknife Championship,” Cadou­steau said in a news release. “It feels like a dream and I don’t want to wake up.”

Cadousteau also won the group competition with teammate Micah Naruo, a Hono­lulu native who joined Cirque du Soleil in 2008 as a fire-dancer. Naruo performed in “Alegria” when it came to the Blaisdell Arena in 2010.

Cadousteau, 32, of Papeete, Tahiti, is the first champion from the island. He beat last year’s winner, Via­via “VJ” Tiu­malu of Orlando, Fla., who took third place this year; and Mikaele Oloa, formerly of Florida and now residing in Wai­­alua, who took second place.

Winners in the other divisions are:

>> Junior Pacific Division (ages 6 to 11): KJ Ahloy of Laie, first; Kekoa Lagunte of Wai­alua, second; and Jonathon Fiu of Kahuku, third.

>> Junior Pacific Division (ages 12 to 17): Preston Weber of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., first; Hale Motu­apu­aka of Aiea, second; and Achilles Tafiti of Laie, third.

>> Group Competition: KJ Ahloy, Quest Ava, Malik Ava and Alex Galeai, second; and Chandae Ava, Aaliyah Ava and Jeralee Galeai, third.
