6.2-magnitude quake off Chile poses no tsunami threat

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck off Aisen, Chile at about 4 p.m. Hawaii time today, but did not generate a Pacific-wide tsunami, officials said.

The quake, which struck at about 4 p.m. Hawaii time, was centered 338 miles west-southwest of Puerto Quellon, Chile, at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach issued a bulletin saying that the quake is not expected to generate a large Pacific-wide tsunami, and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
