A 60-year-old woman from California was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when the mo-ped she was operating apparently went over a guardrail in Honokohau Valley, Maui.

The woman was transported via ambulance to Napili Park, then transferred to a helicopter that flew her to a local trauma center.

Man held in Waikiki break-in and assault
Security guards from a neighboring building helped subdue and capture a 20-year-old sailor after he allegedly broke into an apartment in Waikiki and assaulted one of the residents, police said.
The sailor broke into the louvered window of an apartment near Paoakalani and Kuhio avenues at 12:16 a.m. Wednesday, and when residents in the apartment approached him, the suspect became aggressive, police said. The residents, a 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, retreated into the interior of the apartment, but the sailor followed and assaulted one of them, police said.
Security guards from a neighboring building heard the commotion and came to the aid of the apartment dwellers, detaining the suspect until police arrived and arrested him.
The man, from the visiting aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, matched the description of a suspect in an earlier criminal property damage case, and the victims in that case came to the apartment building and identified him.
He was taken into custody for investigation of burglary, criminal property damage and assault.
Fires in Kuliouou and Waialua called arson
Fire investigators have determined that two recent but separate fires on Oahu were intentionally set.
Both cases have been turned over to the Honolulu Police Department, which has initiated arson investigations, Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.
A fire Sunday in Kuliouou Valley caused about $11,000 in damage to a Kalaau Place house and left its single occupant, a woman, displaced.
Meanwhile, five investigators said several structures sustained about $7,500 in damage in a fire at a Waialua farm on May 7.
Seelig said that fire also appears to have been set intentionally in an area within the property just outside a Fiberglas tram that had been converted into a residence. Also damaged was an inoperable motor vehicle and a wooden shed.
