Victim in fatal motorcycle crash in Waiahole is identified

A 46-year-old motorcyclist killed in a crash Thursday night in Waiahole has been identified as Charles J. Ryan, of Kaaawa, the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said Friday.

Ryan died of multiple blunt force injuries from the crash, the office said.

Police said speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, which left Ryan dead at the scene on Kamehameha Highway near Kaimalolo Place about 10:50 p.m.

Police said Ryan was heading north on the highway when he crossed the centerline and hit an oncoming pickup truck driven by a 54-year-old Honolulu man. Ryan continued heading north and hit another vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Honolulu woman and was ejected from his motorcycle.

He was not wearing a helmet.

Police closed Kamehameha Highway in both directions between Pulama and Waiahole Valley roads while police investigated.
