Bicyclist found dead beside highway
Hawaii island police have requested an autopsy to determine what killed a 63-year-old bicyclist who was found on the side of a highway Thursday in Kona.
The identity of the Kailua-Kona man was being withheld pending notification of his family.
Police said the man was found lying on the side of Queen Kaahumanu Highway near the 82-mile marker at about 9:30 a.m.
The man was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:40 a.m.
Stabbing suspect surrenders to police
The suspect in a Kalihi bus stop stabbing turned himself in to police early Thursday morning.
Police said the 64-year-old man was wanted for a stabbing at a Kalihi bus stop at 3 a.m. April 22.
The suspect allegedly approached a 34-year-old man sitting near the bus stop from behind and hit him over the head with a wooden board.
The victim fought back until the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the younger man before fleeing, police said.
Police said the victim and witnesses identified the suspect, who turned himself in at 2:10 a.m. at the main police station, where he was arrested for investigation of second-degree attempted murder.
Robbery attempted at chicken restaurant
Police are searching for a gunman who tried to rob the Aiea branch of KFC at closing time Wednesday night.
Police said a man in his 20s brandished a handgun and attempted to enter the restaurant on Kamehameha Highway just after 10 p.m.
The manager closed and secured the doors before the robbery suspect could get in. The manager then called police.
The suspect fled.
Ax-handle assault yields suspect’s arrest
Police have arrested a suspect in an attack with an ax handle in Waianae in February.
Officers arrested 32-year-old Waianae man for investigation of second-degree assault Monday afternoon.
Police said the suspect allegedly attacked a 46-year-old man with a wooden ax handle at 4:30 a.m. Feb. 18.
Pearl City man threatens to slash victim
A 29-year-old Pearl City man threatened Monday to slash a 56-year-old man with a box cutter during an argument, police said. The alleged threat happened in Pearl City at about 2:45 p.m. Monday. Police did not provide a location. Officers found the suspect and arrested him at about 4 p.m.
