Former MMA fighter opening salon

A former professional mixed martial arts fighter is opening a new rental salon and spa in Kakaako on Sunday.

Abe Rodriguez, a fighter-turned-hairstylist, will host a grand opening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. of Nueve Salon & Spa, a loft-style salon offering hair as well as spa services such as facials and massages, at 614 Cooke St.

Salon stylists rent space at the second-level shop above Baby Emporium and are required to attend ongoing continuing education classes to offer the latest styles and techniques. The spa has a separate entrance from the salon. Call 597-1614 for more information.

Hawaii National Bank has promoted Brian Kim to loan officer at its main branch. He joined the bank in 2005 as an intern. After graduation in 2007, Kim worked in banking operations in various departments.
