The Search for Signs of Hawaiian Life
COURTESY PHOTO
ALOHA TO THE ALOHA MOTEL | Tonya Whitinui and her ohana stopped for a portrait May 12 in front of the Aloha Motel in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was a good thing they did. That's when she discovered "they are in the middle of a name change from Aloha Motel to Amalfi Motel, and half the signs are already bearing the new name." Tonya, who grew up in Hono•lulu, has lived in New Zealand for 18 months but never managed to get a photo of this sign of Hawaiian life there until last week. The hotel manager took the photo of Paul, left, Kainamu, Tonya and Manaia Whitinui.
